Economics

Sixth Form economics lesson

Economics examines one of the fundamental issues facing society today: the problem of how human and physical resources are developed and employed to produce the goods and services we need for survival, comfort and fulfilment.

At Dulwich, Economics is offered in the Upper School, allowing students to develop a new view of the world and an insight into the ways in which society operates, from the day-to-day decisions made by consumers and businesses, to the macroeconomic issues at both national and international levels.

Topics studied in detail include:

  • How markets operate
  • Free markets vs government intervention
  • Macroeconomic variables: growth, inflation, unemployment, trade
  • Macroeconomic and microeconomic policy in practice
  • Trade and globalisation

The department welcomes speakers from politics, business and the academic world and takes part in student conferences. Students undertake original research and presentations and use ICT extensively as part of the course. The department has its own suite of rooms including an ICT suite and is situated in the heart of the Upper School in the Lord George Building.
