The Art department offers a broad range of facilities and experiences for boys across the College. There are seven art studios, including a ceramics studio and computer suite with both Mac and PC packages for developing art & design work. All work in the Art department has observation as the initial starting point. The importance of drawing and looking cannot be overestimated. After working on initial starting points students develop work in a variety of media, including drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, film and photography. There are ample opportunities for boys to develop their work in timetabled lessons, and students are also encouraged to use the department in their free time, either to add to existing projects or to develop new ideas. The department is well equipped, and the teachers are always available to help students develop their ideas. There are three societies “Click”, “Draw” and “Make” which meet in the department, and a Lower School ceramics club which meets weekly.
We have an artist in residence programme with both one off and long term projects happening across the department and school. Our partnerships are expansive and we work with a variety of Museums, galleries and educational institutions. These include the Dulwich Picture Gallery, Hayward, UAL and the RCA.
We run regular trips to New York for boys in the Upper School studying both Art and Art History, and have also visited Florence, Madrid and Paris in recent years.
