Student in the Archives

Archives

We facilitate around 20 tours annually for visiting Southwark primary school classes to the James Caird housed in The Laboratory at Dulwich College and regular visits by Sixth Form English students at The Charter School for an Early English Theatre seminar with hands-on access to the Henslowe-Alleyn papers.

Special Education Needs and Disability (SEND) students from Turney School have also visited the College to see our pipe organ.

With provision of free information for 300 enquiries each year, we also provide free access for 116 researchers.

Two major 2016 exhibitions were open to the public during Shakespeare 400: ‘Theatrical Treasures from Dulwich College’ and ‘The St. Omer first Folio’, in collaboration with Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre.

"One of the many benefits of the College is the vast repository of material that is held in the Archives. Personally, I have been able to put the resource to good use in researching certain OAs whose medals I happen to have in my collection; and in many cases I have been able to add to the Archive's records with the results of my own research.’’

‘’I was hoping to arrange another visit to bring some more students to see the Henslowe diary and Folios. The Year 13 students absolutely loved the experience last year and am keen to give this year’s the same (so might need two, if possible).’’
English teacher, The Charter School

‘’Thank you very much for hosting me in early December at the Dulwich College archives. I was so pleased to be able to take advantage of your resources, and I was especially pleased to hear about how involved the Dulwich students are in the archiving process. Your materials about Sir Ernest Shackleton were very well organized and allowed my research to progress in directions I didn't expect. I hope to visit again in the future.’’
