We work in partnership with a number of secondary and primary schools and look for partnerships of equals in the service of our locality.

Through our targeted community partnership work Dulwich College aims to help:

Support Local Primary Sector

The Southwark Community Educational Charity (SCEC) is a registered charity which operates enrichment classes at Dulwich Foundation Schools for pupils at participating state primary schools in Southwark, Lambeth and Lewisham. Dulwich College provides two Saturday Schools for over 60 Year 5 students from local primary schools. The Science Saturday School runs during the Michaelmas Term and Creative Saturday School workshops take place during Lent term.

We have a strong relationship with Dulwich Wood Primary school, particularly between our music departments, as we support weekly violin sessions and two choirs. The College chaplain delivers assemblies and pupils make use of our swimming facilities and instructors.

The Phoenix Hockey Programme; for which the College provides facilities, equipment, coaching staff and administrative support; is introducing hockey to 25 year 4 pupils from a range of local schools. After an introductory session the pupils enrolled on a free two-year coaching programme and supplied with protective equipment.

Raise Aspiration and Pupil Outcomes

The Southwark Schools' Learning Partnership (SSLP) is a long-standing collaboration between local schools, in which the College plays a significant part. 18 schools are part of the partnership, including 14 schools from the maintained sector. The partnership promotes a variety of projects for pupils and Continuing Professional Development for staff. The Master is Co-Director, alongside the Principal of Compass School Southwark, and we employ a partnership coordinator with dedicated time to enhance the Partnership's impact.

Higher Education & Careers Fair bring together Year 12 & 13 pupils from local secondary schools with representatives from universities, gap year providers and employers.

Improve STEM outcomes in Southwark

Practical science support is offered to A-Level physics and chemistry pupils from local schools so that they can complete experiments that are key to the curriculum, at the same time their teachers are provided with CPD. Our science team actively supports Physics Partners, the Association for Science Education, the Science Learning Partnership and the Mark Evison Foundation.

Improve KS3 and KS4 aspirations and Outcomes

The College has acted as an educational partner to City Heights E-ACT Academy since its opening in 2013. The College aims to provide support for its educational work and to establish links and activities that benefit both schools through shared experience and good practice. The campuses are just two kilometres apart, which supports regular interaction between staff and pupils.

We work with other local secondary schools to fill specific gaps as requested. For example German with The Charter School North Dulwich, Classics at St Thomas the Apostle School and Sixth Form College, and Sales with Business at The Elmgreen School.

Address Local Teacher Shortage

We are the London hub for two national School-Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) programmes - Modern Languages and Mathematics & Physics - where we place trainee teachers, graduates and career changers, in a range of different schools.

Develop Pupil Voice and Staff Leadership Training in Local Secondary Schools

Thanks to a generous gift from a parent, Dulwich College has been able to match fund the Department for Education's three year grant to the SSLPs Student Voice project. Student's have been empowered to make films about racism, have conversations about mental health and now to suggest actions for more sustainable school environments.

The College has spearheaded a professional development programme for the SSLP. Now working with JAGS and Alleyn's we've offered learning opportunities for Aspiring Middle Leaders in 2021, Aspiring Senior Leaders in 2022 and this year we have four twilight sessions for Aspiring Pastoral Leaders.
