CERN trip
The science faculty at Dulwich is keen to share its teaching expertise to both teachers and pupils alike in the provision of weekly enrichment sessions for pupils and termly CPD sessions to teachers.

Strong links have been forged with Bonus Pastor Catholic College in Bromley who send their most interested GCSE pupils each week to engage in enrichment session in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Some of these pupils after two years have applied to be Ogden Scholars in order to study at Dulwich for their A levels.

A more recent link has been formed with St Thomas the Apostle College in Lewisham. They have recently started teaching A levels and Dulwich has been advising on the long term planning of their science courses along with providing weekly sessions in the Laboratory for their pupils to complete the required practicals. These pupils have also joined Dulwich boys on Biology trips to the London School of Hygiene and Tropical medicine. Dulwich has also for a number of years selected boys via an internal essay competitor, to join a summer school at CERN run by the Particle Physics Department at Liverpool University. The trip has been growing in size to include more pupils and recently we have extended the applications to schools in the Southwark Schools Learning Partnership (SSLP). This year 15 pupils from this group of schools now join the Liverpool team for a week of summer school at the CMS Experiment at CERN in Geneva.

Our educational mission also includes providing CPD to teachers. This has been focused on supporting non-specialist Physics teachers which is co-ordinated by our Odgen Fellow. Twice termly Dulwich puts on evening CPD along with providing an annual Stimulating Physics Network day run by the Institute of Physics. Our Physics teachers are also used as trainers for the educational charity Physics Partners which visits schools across London. In the last year we have provided training for 4 schools and the Harris Academy group.

The new Laboratory at the College boasts 21 laboratories and 5 IT suites. This school-leading facility has meant we can increase the support we offer to local schools.
