The Fallen of the Great War

Over 530 Old Alleynians died in the First World War. Their stories were collected in the War Record which was published in the 1920s. As we pass through the centenary of their deaths we plan to commemorated them by placing their pictures and names on our website.

In 2018 we also are planning to launch a new website which will allow viewers to read, for example, the letters that the College owns from the families and commanding officers of these men, and trace the journey of each man from home, to the College and then to war.

This commemoration is to mark the 100th anniversary to the day of each of the College’s 511 War dead. The information includes the unit to which the serviceman was attached, and his dates at the College. More details are contained in the Dulwich College War Record 1914 - 1919.

The single day on which most fell, nine, was 25 September 1915, at the battle of Loos
