Rugby, football and chess champions
On Tuesday 28th March the Under 15 rugby Sevens team achieved notable success by winning the Arthur Jones Memorial Sevens Tournament at Dartford Grammar School. The side played particularly well against strong opposition in the group stages, the highlight being a 12-5 win over a strong Trinity team. The semi-final proved a thrilling contest during which Dulwich were able to overcome the loss of one player to injury and eventually triumphed 19-17. With only seven fit players left by this stage, the final was a challenge. Matters were made worse when Judd scored the opening try. Nevertheless the boys showed their customary character and determination, fighting their way back with three second half tries to win the Championship 19-5.
On Wednesday 30th March the College were on the winning team twice more: The 1stXI football team played in the finals of the Trinity Cup at Dulwich Hamlet FC and, for the second year running, came out on top. In an exciting match against Hampton School the final score was 1-0 with the goal scored by Yo Kanda who had, luckily, managed to switch his flight home to Japan when the date for the final was announced.
On the same day the College Chess team were in action for the Kent League tournament. The final stage of the tournament was held at Dulwich and the boys from the College spent the first half of the afternoon winning their semi-final matches and then also went on to beat St Olave’s School in the final. Captained by Daniel Diamond, the team consisted of Matthew Burke, Samuel Franklin, Alexander Schymyck and Yari Voropayev.
