Drama
Drama is on the curriculum until the end of Year 9. Additionally there are many opportunities for pupils to participate in the production work of the theatre. We are particularly proud of the technical facilities and the teaching offered to Middle School and older pupils interested in lighting, sound and stage management.
AS and A2 Theatre Studies are a vibrant and successful part of the College’s Upper School curriculum. Students regularly achieve the highest grades in both practical and written examinations. Although the Theatre Studies groups are small, the retention record from AS to A2 is excellent. This reflects the fact that students who have taken the course appreciate and enjoy that it is educational in the broadest sense – dealing not only with the practicalities of theatre, but with challenging content issues.
Theatre Studies is an established and accepted A level. Students following the course at the College have gone on to study a variety of courses at medical schools, art colleges, Oxbridge, universities and drama schools. Universities and employees appreciate the life skills (team-work, presentation, etc) that the course teaches students, and the ‘rounded’ nature of a student who has Theatre Studies in his academic portfolio at AS or A2 level. Students do not need any previous experience of theatre, but they do need a commitment to learning and an enthusiastic nature.
